Favorite Side Ships

Top Five Wednesday: Favorite Side Ships

My top favorite book coupling that’s not with the protagonist.

1.    Genya and David from The Grisha trilogy.  I have always enjoyed watching and reading about couples where the pretty girl is in love with the nerdy scientist who is socially awkward.  Genya is a Grisha and one of her powers is to alter your physical appearance, and David is a Grisha who only understands metal.  It’s when Genya is seriously injured by the Darkling and there’s a war going on, and when Genya accuses him of only noticing her because she’s not beautiful anymore, that’s when he kisses her for the first.  They had so cute together, and I like how it’s the beautiful who’s in love with the nerdy guy, not the other way around.
2.    Giles and Jenny from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.   It was so sad what happened to Jenny first time, and I wished this couple had more screen time.  This is another romance trope I like, when the one half of pairing came into the other’s life undercover, and fall in love.  I also like how just like the previous couple Jenny and Giles are complete opposites.  Jenny is computer aficionada and Giles is the shy bookman.  They are another cute couple that I enjoyed watching with what screen time they did have.
3.    Simon Lewis and Isabelle Lightwood from Mortal Instruments.  These two are so cute and like how Izzy is this sexy badass Shadowhunter and she falls for Simon, who is a bit of a nerd, though it helps that he become a vampire.  You can tell she loves him by the end of the series, and Simon as an individual character totally comes into his own by the end.
4.    Alice and Jasper from The Twilight series.  Like Simon and Izzy these two are complete opposites.  Alice is very bubbly, sweet, and extroverted while Jasper is quiet, thoughtful, and introverted.  They balanced out and bring out the best in each other. They also have a great support system within each other.
Link and Ridley.  I don’t know if I’ll get around to the spin-off series, but these two are another cute couple.  As you can see, my favorite side ships are people who are complete opposites of each other, but balance each other out nicely.  I like how Link still loves Ridley and never gives up on her even though she’s a Dark Caster and does horrible things.  Ridley shows moments where she does care about him, like with Lena, when she tries to push him away, because she knows she’s too much of a dark

  1. I totally forgot about GenyaxDavid and Sizzy! I have only read Beautiful Creatures, but I do think Link and Ridley are cute too :)
