Top Five Future Classics

Future Classics
1.    Harry Potter series.  This is probably already considered a classic, but I’m including on this top 5. Almost everyone has read this book and it is still talked about after ten years.  Despite it originally seeming like a fun adventure story, it is also a story that looks at prejudice, friendship, and good versus evil.
2.    The Circle by David Eggers.  The story reflects and is a criticism of our society that is absolutely terrifying, because of how close it comes to home, and we are pretty close to that kind of situation.  It’s a 21stcentury version of 1984 by George Orwell.
3.    1Q84 is another modern dystopian set in Japan and inspired by 1984, hence the title.  It’s a bit of a long one and eccentric, but there’s so much you can analyze from this novel. If you can study it, it will be a classic.
4.    The Hunger Games by Susannah Collins.  This provides interest commentary on our society and is universally popular story.

5.    Circe by Madeline Miller.  This novel expands on an already existing classic, The Odysseyby Homer, and tells the story of a minor character in that story.  It also looks at the story from a feminist point of view, and it could be debated that author is just coloring the story the way she would want it to go.
