Top 5 Wednesday: Top 5 Books I Read Because of Booktube, Blogging, Goodreads......

Books I’ve Read Because of Blogging, Booktubing, Goodreads etc… Let’s face it most of my books here will be books I have heard about on Booktube, but it’s possible I have heard about some on Facebook groups or on Goodreads. 1.     A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.   I had heard about this book series constantly, especially about the romance of Feyre and Rhysand, but it took me a while to finally buy it.   I bought the first book while I was staying with my Lola before we moved, so it was part of the handful of books I was about to read while I didn’t have access to my whole library with me. 2.     Sarah’s other series Throne of Glass it was the same as with A Court of Thorns and Roses.   I read the first two books while staying with my Lola too.   I was tired of the constant hints on how great it was. 3.     A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic trilogy) by V.E. Schwab.   Reagan from Peruse Projects talked about this trilogy a lot, and she is one of the booktube

Review of Me Before You

Review of Me Before You By Jojo Moyes Me Before You is a bittersweet drama by Jojo Moyes about two opposites are brought together by horrible circumstances.  Louisa “Lou” Clark is a positive person with a colorful style.  After getting laid off at her job as a waitress at a cafĂ© she gets a job working for a rich family as a caretaker for Will Traynor, a twenty something quadriplegic.  Will is bitter because can feeling nothing below the waist and he can longer take care of himself or live his adventurous life.   Louisa tries everything to heal his emotional moods and prevent him from wanting to go to a hospital in Switzerland where he will kill himself.  During her time with Will, despite his cynicism and cantankerous behavior Louisa loses her heart to him. The pacing of Me Before You was very good and makes the book quick to get through.  Reading it you keep hoping it will end happily and Louisa’s plan will work.   Will’s situation and his feelings about it are understa

Review of Reconstructing Amelia

Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight is a novel about acceptance, bullying, and friendship.             Reconstructing Amelia dramatically begins with the title character already being dead, but her mother Kate suspects otherwise when she receives a mysterious text that says “Amelia didn’t kill herself”.   The story follows Kate as she tries to unravel the mystery behind her daughter’s death, and the events of Amelia’s life that lead to it.                 Kate believes her daughter to be a good student, who loves reading, and is a loyal friend, but learns through Amelia’s texts and emails that she had been involved with a group that ruined her reputation.     Amelia had been “tapped” to join “The Magpie’s”, a popular group of “mean girls” at her private school, led by Zadie.   Kate finds out about all the things Amelia had to do such as pull pranks on teachers and allow inappropriate pictures of herself to be taken.               Over all, this book was a good book

Review of 1Q84

Review of 1Q84 By: Haruki Murakami 1Q84 narrates the lives of Aomame and Tengo Kawana in Tokyo, Japan during an alternate version of 1984.  The two had been in love since they were ten years old and had a brief physical connection when they held hands, but were separated when Aomame’s parents had taken her out of the school, because the school’s approach to learning clashed with their religious beliefs as Witnesses. Years later the  both of them ended up in this altered version of 1984 where they get mixed up with this religious cult known as Sakigake.  Unknowingly, Tengo, who is an editor as well as a math teacher at a cram school, is recruited to rewrite Air Chrysalis , a novel written by a teenager, Fuka Eri.  She is the daughter of the leader of the religious cult, and a victim of their bizarre beliefs.  Aomame is hired by a Dowager, to take out the leader, because he rapes woman and young girls as part of his beliefs.  The Dowager offers the women a safe haven.
