Reading Update

I think I need to set a rule/goal for myself where I read 5 books that I already own, and then maybe buy more after I read those.  I also need to set aside 1 or 2 books to donate. Current Reads:  I'm trying to get The Raven King finished by Friday, because that's when my friend Terri comes to stay for the week and then we will go to Supercon for the weekend.  I'm on chapter 44, so that's  page 307/438.  Still reading Mistborn as well, but my focus is The Raven King, but since I only have my lunch bag and no locker I can't take it to work.

Tome Topple Wrap-Up

I only finished one book for Tome Topple, but that is no surprise.  I'm hoping that eventually, it will get easier to read tomes and finish them quicker.  Not that I want to rush my reading, but I want to be able to read bigger books and not take months or years to read them. Book Finished Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier I did give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I enjoyed reading about Sorcha's journey and I felt such sympathy for her.  She was a very admirable and brave young woman.  The slow burn is my favorite kind of romance, though I can't stand the "will they, won't they" drama in contemporary shows, but I don't mind it in fantasy.  I'm glad it didn't come until the second half of the novel, though.  I loved the relationship between Sorcha and her brothers, but sometimes it aggravated me that they treated her like a child.  I think she should have said something to get them to back off.    I also appreciated how each brother had an individual perso

Tome Topple

Update Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson Page:288 Chapter: 18 Thoughts: The magic with the swallowing metals is really cool.  I like how were learning with Vin in the story. I wonder if Mare really did betray Kelsier?  Maybe she was manipulated by the Lord Rule? Vin's trust issues drive me crazy, but I get why she has them. She wants to trust people, but cannot thanks to her brother's "teachings". I still predict that Lord Elend is going to be a love interest, but I also think Lestibournes likes Vin as well. The father/daughter bond between Kelsier and Vin is one of my favorite tropes. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier Page: 270 Chapter: Eight Thoughts: I know the grudge between Sorcha's kingdom and the Britons has been going on for years, but its unfair that Sorcha is being judge by her family!  Guilty by association.  Red's mom doesn't even know her!  She just assumes! I'm nervous that Sorcha won't get to her bro

June Star Ratings

June Reading  1.      Circe by Madeline Miller ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2.     Hunted by Meagan Spooner ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3.      The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.    Autumn by Ali Smith ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.     City of Dark Magic ⭐⭐ DNF: Get in Trouble by Kelly Link.  I finally chose to DNF this collection of short stories, because it was too weird, and I just couldn't get into it.

Top Five Future Classics

Future Classics 1.      Harry Potter series.    This is probably already considered a classic, but I’m including on this top 5.   Almost everyone has read this book and it is still talked about after ten years.    Despite it originally seeming like a fun adventure story, it is also a story that looks at prejudice, friendship, and good versus evil. 2.      The Circle by David Eggers.    The story reflects and is a criticism of our society that is absolutely terrifying, because of how close it comes to home, and we are pretty close to that kind of situation.    It’s a 21 st century version of 1984 by George Orwell. 3.      1Q84 is another modern dystopian set in Japan and inspired by 1984, hence the title.    It’s a bit of a long one and eccentric, but there’s so much you can analyze from this novel. If you can study it, it will be a classic. 4.      The Hunger Games by Susannah Collins.    This provides interest commentary on our society and is universally popular story. 5.

Tome Topple Update!

Title: Daughter of the Forest By: Juliet Marillier Chapter: Five Page: 158 I'm really getting into this.  Lady Oonagh is scary and I want to know what she is.  I like Sorcha as a MC and the relationship with her brothers is really sweet.  Is there going to be a time jump?  She's only twelve now and there's supposed to be a romance, and it would be weird for a twelve year old to have a romance.   Title: Mistborn: The Final Empire Chapter: Ten Page:189 The magic system is really cool.  I hope Vin is able to pretend to be a noble, but don't know I'm nervous.  As I'm reading it, I'm picturing Jensen Ackles as Kelsier and Camren Bicondova as Vin. These are books I want to continue with even after tome topple, because I have had both these books for a long time, and need to get them read.

Top Five: Best Books of 2018 so Far......

Best Books I Read So Far in 2018 1.        The Secret History by Donna Tartt.    The plot is intriguing.    The author takes a look how a person would handle an immoral situation.    The writing is enriching and beautiful.    Rich, arrogant, snobby, and pretentious people fascinate. 2.       Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend.    This is such a fun, whimsical read about a girl who gets a chance to be someone special, despite being considered a curse child.    I adored Morrigan as a protagonist, love the world Townsend created, the characters were great, and the concept of the trials was awesome. 3.       The Traitor’s Wife by Alison Pataki is a fictionalized version of a true story about Benedict Arnold’s second Peggy Shippen, who manipulated him into betraying America.    This is told through the voice and eyes of a fictional character, who is a maid to, and becomes a confidant to Peggy.    I enjoyed the writing and Peggy was a person you just love to ha
